‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’: Peter Mayhew says Daisy Ridley is like Queen Amidala actress Natalie Portman

Peter Mayhew recently talked about his fellow “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” cast members and mentioned how Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, is like Natalie Portman. Mayhew, who plays the iconic character of Chewbacca, also described his experience seeing the second trailer of the film, especially the part where he is with Harrison Ford, who plays Han Solo, at the Millennium Falcon.

In an interview with Bmag’s Rohan Williams, Mayhew was asked to describe his co-stars especially newcomers Ridley and also John Boyega, who plays Finn. The 71-year-old said that Ridley is like Portman, who played Queen Amidala in the “Star Wars” prequels, because of how “solid” she is.

“Daisy… was a little bit solid. More like Natalie [Portman] on the other movies [the prequels]. But I think, once she gets to see everything going on, she’s going to enjoy it, because it’s going to relax her,” he said.

Mayhew further noted how Ridley’s personality blossomed.

“So we watched her blossom, from a quiet young lady, into the girl who was there at Star Wars Celebration. She had blossomed; she was beautiful and full of personality. I think she’s got a lot of personality still to come out, and if the right movies come along, she will do very, very well,” Mayhew told Williams, adding that Ridley is going to be a famous actress someday.

Carrie Fisher To Daisy Ridley: ‘Don’t Be A Slave Like I Was’

Being one of the main stars in an upcoming installment of one of the biggest movie franchises in history can be overwhelming, but Daisy Ridley can seek comfort in the fact that Carrie Fisher has her back.

Fisher talked to Ridley for Interview Magazine and the two instantly made a connection. Both “Star Wars” stars, the two rekindled a bond they developed at a previous meeting. Being the more experienced of the two in the industry, Fisher had a number of things to say to Ridley, including broaching the topic of being fantasized, which she said the younger actress will likely be uncomfortable with.

Ridley shared that she’s been informed of her new status as a sex symbol and has been asked how she feels about it. She, however, believes that the title does not apply to her. Fisher agrees, saying that she thinks being a sex symbol is simply an opinion someone has and she doesn’t need to share it.

You should fight for your outfit. Don’t be a slave like I was,” Fisher added.

This is a reference to the “Slave Leia” outfit she wore in “Return of the Jedi” as Leia was captured by Jabba the Hutt. That outfit was every fanboy’s dream come true and has grown to be a popular costume for ladies throughout the years, even becoming a particular draw in conventions. The outfit had sexist implications and this is probably why Fisher wants Ridley to fight for getting appropriate outfits.

Ridley said she’s been asked countless times if she has a crush on anyone from the original films but she always says that if there was anyone she looked up to, it was Fisher, because the actress was a kick-ass woman who paved the way for all the girls.
During the interview, the two also talked about going to Las Vegas decked in “Star Wars” merchandise and simply having a blast, a trip that may or may not land them in an asylum afterwards. They will have the best rooms in the asylum though, if that happened, according to Fisher.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is due to hit theaters Dec. 18. Ridley will star as Rey, one of three main characters in the movie. The others are Poe Dameron and Finn, played by Oscar Isaac and John Boyega respectively.
